Chapter 9: Uncharted territory

The last few days have been quite the adventure! We left Ko-Ka Tsara, a lovely settlement nestled in the Nuweveld Mountains, and we were meant to meet up with Peter Laubscher, a well-known personality in the 4×4 community, in Bloemfontein.

Peter was supposed to take us about 30-40kms outside of Bloemfontein to a place called Doringbos, a private game farm in the heart of Cederberg, where a challenging 4×4 trail awaited us. When we got to Doringbos, we ended up meeting the owner of the farm and another 4×4 specialist named Andries Botha who took us on a tour of the property and around the 4×4 track.

They challenged us to a friendly competition to see if the Karoo Bakkies could outcompete their 4×4 vehicles. The Doringbos 4×4 Trail is considered by many as one of the toughest natural terrain trails in Southern Africa. Well, we’re proud to inform you that all three of the Bakkies performed exceedingly well, specifically because of the off-road tyres and heavy-duty raised suspension. In the end, they gave their expert opinion on what they thought of the Karoo Special Edition Bakkies and we’re happy to report that they received outstanding feedback.

We spent the rest of the day on the Doringbos Game Farm checking out the wildlife and all this tranquil piece of land has to offer.

Next, we set our sights West as we journey through the Midlands in Kwa-Zulu Natal and take on one of the most feared and respected 4×4 trails, on the border between SA and the third country we’re visiting in the final stretch of our Mahindra Pik Up Karoo expedition.

Join us in part 10 of our ongoing blog series as we explore all that Southern Africa has to offer as we Unleash The Explorer in You!
